What are the most common air conditioning faults?
Most call-outs fall into a handful of groups.
- Blowing warm air. Often a low refrigerant charge from a leak, a failed fan or a dirty coil.
- Water dripping indoors. Usually a blocked condensate pipe, sometimes a poorly levelled indoor unit.
- Unit will not start. Could be a tripped breaker, dead remote batteries, a control board fault or a failed capacitor.
- Bad smells. Typically a dirty filter or coil that has not been cleaned for a long time.
- Ice on the pipes or outdoor unit. Points to airflow problems or low refrigerant.
- Loud rattles or whistles. Loose panels, a worn fan motor or something stuck in the fan.
Before you call, check the remote is on cool mode, the batteries are fresh and the isolator switch has not been turned off. It takes a minute and sometimes solves it.
